Walking in Tarangire

Tarangire National Park in Tanzania is an exception to the general rule of no walking in Parks. Here, Oliver's Camp has exclusive rights to lead walks from his base camp. Walking in the bush is the highlight of many guests’ safaris. You will encounter wildlife frequently, but wilderness is the goal. By adjusting the length and pace of walks to your pace, the emphasis can be on taking it slowly and having time to smell flowers, not simply hiking for hiking's sake. The walking opportunities for guests staying at Oliver's Camp range from a gentle stroll near the camp, to a full day out on foot across the Park exploring the recently opened wilderness zone. The variety of habitats surrounding the Base Camp include open plains, acacia woodlands, tree lined sand rivers, and challenging hill climbs.

Longer walking safaris inside Tarangire National Park are an option for the more adventurous. These use fly camps for overnight stops, expanding the extent of land that can be explored.

Fly camping in these wilderness areas of is a perfect compliment to a longer stay in Tarangire. The freedom of movement, the intimacy of the light camp and the thrill of being so close to nature is the pinnacle of many guests safaris. The fly camp is light enough to move easily and strike quickly, but still retains the everyday luxuries that characterise Oliver’s Camp – hot showers, comfortable bedding and cold drinks served with gourmet food.
