Rekero Tented Camp
Rekero Tented Camp is located on a bluff inside the Masai Mara Reserve nestled in riverine forest over looking vast plains on the side of Talek River. Below, are large pools populated by hippos and crocodile, not far from one of the main Wildebeest crossings during the migration.
Combined with some of the best big cat viewing in all of Africa, the location of Rekero’s Tented Camp, I think, is the best in the Mara.
Sometimes, while eating around the dining table, set out under the shade of huge trees, you feel as though you are on a game drive! Non-stop action right before your eyes makes finishing a meal in a timely fashion difficult.
The combination of game viewing, together with a unique cultural experience makes a stay at Rekero’s Tented Camp a rewarding experience.
During your stay here guests you may be hosted by my old friend Gerard Beaton or Jackson Looseyia (aka Saigilu Ole Looseyia) an Ildorobo Masai who knows more about eco-tourism than I could ever learn. If you want to know the Latin, English, Maa or Swahili name for any bug, flower, bird or animal in your path he’s your man! Feeling poorly? Jackson’s intimate knowledge of herbalism and bushcraft will having you feeling better in no time! And you had better be up on local politics back here in the States because Jackson listens to satellite radio a regular basis. I am also pleased to say that Jackson has finally succumbed to rock collecting; probably because he became bored standing idly by as I had to stop, pick up and examine every stone within eyesight.
Jackson's father was chief ranger to Lynn Temple-Boram the warden of South Masailand (the Masai Mara) during colonial times. Jackson has an intimate knowledge of herbalism and bushcraft and is fast attaining recognition as one of Kenya's top wildlife and cultural guides.
